Wheelchair Accessible Hunting

Whether it's for sport or for hobby, hunting is an ideal way to enjoy exercise in the great outdoors. Being in a wheelchair should not stop you from enjoying something you love to do, or something you have always wanted to learn.

As with most outdoor activities, being confined to a wheelchair does make the concept of hunting a little difficult. For instance, in a wheelchair you may encounter some challenges trekking through dense bush to reach your target. However, don't let this discourage you. When there's a will, there's a way.

Often times, there are special zones set aside in hunting hot spots for people in wheelchairs. Paved terrain circles wooded areas so you don't have to go off course and venture into the woods to get a good shot. Once you do shoot something, these areas also often have someone there to assist you in bringing the animal out of the woods and onto a truck.

Thanks to today's technology, hunting is possible even with limited use of your body and from a wheelchair. There are a number of devices available on the market to help you use your gun, even if you don't have a good grip or control of your hands. Trigger activators can be fitted on your rifle. With the simple action of pulling the handle, the gun will go off. Of course, there are safety features built-in so your gun can't go off at random. A special harness can also attach to your chest to hold your gun in place.

One drawback of wheelchair hunting is that you are much more visible than an able-bodied counterpart who is able to crouch and hide in the brush. Consider a camouflage wheelchair cover while you're on the hunt. These are designed to drape over your body.
