Raised Toilet Seats

A raised toilet seat is designed for somebody who has trouble bending down to sit on a standard toilet. Raised toilet seats can add an additional height of approximately two- to five-inches to a standard toilet seat. You can also purchase spacer devices that are made to be installed under the base of your toilet. These spacers will generally add about 3.5-inches of height to any 14- or 15-inch toilet without changing the general appearance of the toilet. It's a good safety measure to add a raised toilet seat when the standard seat is too low for you.

When choosing a raised toilet seat you should try to find one that has added safety features - such as brackets or locking clamps that stabilize the seat onto the rim of the toilet. If you are prone to sliding when standing up it would be a good idea to use a clamp-on raised toilet seat with locking brackets. Make sure you sit on the seat properly and not just on the front edge of it. Some styles of raised seats also have an open access or a cut out section in the front of them to assist you with personal hygiene efforts.

Raised toilet seats can be found with padded armrests for additional security and comfort. These also offer additional help with sitting and standing. A raised toilet seat is designed to make bathroom use easier for you, but if your model doesn't come with built in padded side arms you should make sure to install a toilet safety frame for additional comfort and safety. Raised toilet seats are also designed to help stop you and the seat from slipping. They are also built to handle a certain weight capacity, so for safety reasons you need to make sure that your seat can handle your body size and weight. Raised toilet seats are available with various padding thicknesses, widths, heights, colors, materials and designs.

Raised toilet seats are designed for hygienic purposes so most manufacturers and stores won't allow you to return them after they've been used.
