Adult Walkers

Question: Could you possibly help me or point me in the right direction for an adult walker (similar to baby walker but for an adult) for my daughter who is 24 and cannot walk unsupported? ~Lorraine.

Answer: Adult walkers are very popular and they come in various styles and sizes. Four-wheeled walkers are quite common and these usually come with carrying baskets attached to the front of them. Most wheeled or rolling walkers also have hand brakes and padded seats. Walkers are relatively lightweight with some of them weighing only about 10-pounds. Walkers with larger wheels are suited for outdoor use; while small wheels are ideal for indoors. Walkers are also built to handle certain weight capacities and heavy duty models are also available. Another common type of walker is the standard style. Standard walkers have legs instead of wheels. These walkers are also built for specific weight capacity and are quite light, making them easy to lift. Most of these walkers are foldable for easy transport and storage. Make sure your walker is suitable for your daughter's height and weight and that it isn't too heavy for her. You also need to make sure the hand grips are comfortable and that the walker is stable. Standard walkers can be found starting at about $60; while wheeled walkers can be bought for less than $200. Most companies that deal in wheelchairs also sell walkers.
