Question: I have a Hoveround wheelchair that needs a new toggle switch and a maintenance check-up that I wish to give to a deserving person. I have tried numerous organizations without success. Could you tell me where I can donate this equipment? It seems a shame that no one is interested. ~Walter
Answer: It's kind of you to want to donate your wheelchair and I'm surprised nobody has taken it yet. There are numerous individuals and organizations looking for wheelchairs. I would try all of your local charities and medical centers such as hospitals, clinics and old age homes, perhaps even local churches. You could also place an ad in the classified section of your local paper stating that you have a wheelchair to donate. If you don't have any luck in finding a taker there is a program called the Wheelchair Recycling Program (wrp.org). This organization is set up to collect used mobility devices and even fixes them up if necessary. The devices are then distributed to people or organizations that are in need.
