Lifts for RVs

Question:My folks have a 5th wheel travel trailer. My mom is now in a wheelchair and requires a lift to get her up in the rig. Where do I find a wheelchair lift to load passengers? ~Rick

Answer: The wheelchair lift you describe is a platform lift. A platform lift is similar to those used on buses for public transit. A platform lift is operated by a remote control that powers the lift outward and lowers it to the ground so you can drive your wheelchair onto it. Once your scooter is secure, the remote raises it into the vehicle. Platform lifts are also available in tilt models that slant down like ramps. The scooter or wheelchair is driven onto it, then secured and the platform returns to flat for transport. Automotive lifts are available for vans, trucks and most model cars on the road today. It is advisable to contact the automobile company that manufactured your parent's 5th wheel travel trailer to see if they offer a reimbursement program to cover some of the cost.
