Self-Manipulated Hoists

Question: Can a hoist be found for a quadriplegic to manipulate by themselves? ~Rosemary

Answer: I'm not really sure what type of hoist you are looking for specifically, but there are many types of lifting devices on the market. There are hoists that lift people from a wheelchair into a vehicle, hoists to lift wheelchairs or electric scooters into vehicles, and hoists that lift your wheelchair into a vehicle; in which your wheelchair seat then becomes the car seat. These lifts can also be purchased for heavier-set people and are compatible with almost any type of vehicle. Vertical platform lifts for houses are also available as are stair lifts. Platform lifts can be bought in various sizes and they can lift to different heights. Stair lifts are powered seats that are built onto a track on your stairs. You just need to be able to push a button and the lift will transport you up and down the stairs.
